Terms & Conditions

Our aim is to ensure that all our visitors have an enjoyable stay with us, thus it is important that you familiarise yourself with these terms and conditions

Before confirming your booking at Scalloway Caravan Park please take the time to read the information below. It includes vital information regarding cancellation policies and the amenities and services available at the site, which will assist you with planning your holiday.

Payment Policy

To secure your booking, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. The balance is due 30 days in advance. We do not accept provisional bookings, so please do not make a booking unless you are in the position to honour it. Please contact us directly if you would prefer to make a telephone booking. Payment can be made by credit/debit card, bank transfer or cheque by post; and if you turn up without booking you can pay by card online

Cancellation/No-Show Policy

In the event of cancellations or no-shows, we do offer free cancellation and a full refund up to 30 days before arrival. If cancelled within 30 days no refund is available.

Travel Insurance

We strongly advise you to take out the appropriate levels of travel insurance so you can have peace of mind that your costs will be covered, should you need to cancel your holiday for any reason. We recommend that guests have an appropriate level of travel insurance in place for their needs.

Wigwam occupancy

The maximum insured occupancy for the Wigwams are strictly 4 persons in the Wee Brave and 5 persons in the Big Chief (this includes children). Both wigwams have electricity and a heater. Each wigwam has a picnic bench close to the entrance. All other facilities are in the Amenity Building.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in the Wigwams or in any communal areas such as the Amenity Building and toilets and showers. There is an outside designated smoking area with facility for disposal of cigarette ends.

Dogs and other Pets

The Scalloway Camp Caravan Park is situated on a working farm, therefore unfortunately no dogs or other animals are allowed on site. Should you arrive with a pet we reserve the right to refuse access and no refund will be given.

Site Safety and Immediate Surroundings

Please do not climb the perimeter fences. There is an electric fence on the west side and part of the north side. Appropriate warning signs are in place. Use gates or stiles provided. There is a small stream that runs through the site, partly in a wooded areas. Access is allowed to this area though care should be taken around the stream.

There is also an amenity area across the road alongside the loch which you can walk around and enjoy. However care should be taken when crossing the road and children should be accompanied while crossing the road.

It should be noted that the loch is a site of scientific interest (SSSI) and therefore every effort needs to be made to avoid any pollution going into the loch. It is possible to walk around the loch but you are advised not to walk on the golf course

You should also note that any horses in the adjacent fields should not be fed under any circumstances.

You are asked to abide by the Countryside Access Code a copy of which is displayed in the Amenity Building.

Group Bookings

It is possible for a group to book several pitches and wigwams or tent area, depending on availability and time of year. The Amenity Building can also be booked for specific events or meetings, again depending on other usage.  Please contact us directly to discuss your requirements.

Arrival/Departure Procedures

Check in time is any time after 14.30pm for pitches and wigwams and check out is by 10.30am at the latest. It may be possible to remain later on site, not necessarily on your pitch, by prior arrangement. Pitches and wigwams should be left clean and tidy on departure

Parking and Traffic Management

Car parking is available at the entrance and outside the Amenity Building. Please respect accessible spaces. The one way system for access to and from the site has appropriate signs and should be observed at all times. A speed limit of 5mph operates within the site.

Amenity Building

The site includes an Amenity Building which contains a fully equipped kitchen and laundry as well as heated shower and toilet rooms and a dining area. All the facilities are open to all who have paid the basic fee. There is a separate accessible shower and toilet area within the building.

The building has notice boards with important information about the fire and other regulations and emergency information, as well as local information on services and facilities and interpretive information on the immediate environment. You are asked to read and familiarise yourself with this information, particularly regarding fire points.

Wireless Facilities

Complementary wireless internet access is available in the amenity building and throughout the side though the latter is less reliable. A 4G phone signal is also available on site for most networks.

Access

Most of the site is wheelchair accessible as is the Amenity building (with accessible shower and toilet facilities) and the Big Chief Wigwam.

Waste Disposal

There are facilities for disposal of chemical toilet waste as well as a series of bins for general rubbish and recycling. Please dispose of waste in the appropriately signed bins provided. Only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilets.

Grey water disposal should be done at the designated point using suitable containers or hose connections from vehicles which can park alongside. Greywater should not be disposed of at the hard standing pitches, surface water drains, or grass area, or open streams or ditches.

Pitches for Caravans and Motorhomes

All pitches have electricity hook ups and water directly available at no extra charge i.e. it is inclusive in the basic price. Charging of electric vehicles is not permitted at hook ups. The warden can advise on the nearest EV charging points. Persons using an electrical hook up are responsible for their own electrical equipment which must comply with current British standards and regulations.

The pitches are numbered and you will be given a number when a booking has been confirmed. The pitches are all hard standing tarred pitches.

Tent Pitches

An area of grass has been set aside for pitching tents. This area is to the west of the Amenity Building and south of the Wigwams and is indicated on the ground with signs. You are free to choose a specific location within this area while respecting the position of other tents. Camping stoves can be used with proprietary stands.

Barbecue Area and Picnic tables

A shared barbecue area is provided as well as small portable barbecue facilities being available for hire. These facilities are used at your own risk and appropriate precautions should be taken to avoid any accidents.

Picnic tables are provided outside the Amenity Building and with each Wigwam, as well as by the lochside.

Complaints Procedure

We take all comments from guests seriously and in the unlikely event that you wish to make a complaint, you can contact us by telephone or email and we will respond; or compete a complaints/comments form to be found in the Amenity Building. We will try to resolve any issues as soon as possible.

Code of Conduct

We expect all our visitors to respect and look after the site and the Wigwam you may be staying in. Those staying in the Wigwams are asked to leave them tidy and as found, and place all rubbish in bins provided. We also require you to respect your fellow visitors and keep noise levels to a minimum after 10pm.

If you leave a mess behind, use excessive electricity or leave it on, or are responsible for any breakages or damage to property you will be liable to pay the cost for reparations and any insurance claim costs.

Parents or guardians are responsible for their children; as such children must be supervised at all times. No children under 12 years old are allowed in the toilets unsupervised. Children should not be allowed to play in the ditches or the stream on the site or to enter the loch.

COVID and Other Health Restrictions

At the time of writing these Terms and Conditions Covid restrictions in Scotland have been relaxed and face masks are no longer mandatory in public or restricted spaces. However the safety of our users is our highest priority thus we would ask residents to use their discretion and wear face masks, if felt appropriate, in the Amenity Building. Hand sanitiser is available for those entering and using the Amenity Building. The building and facilities will be cleaned on a daily basis or between main usages, and surfaces wiped down with appropriate sprays.

If you have any of the COVID symptoms please maintain your distance from other residents and take a test. If you test positive before arrival please do not come to the site, and if you test positive while at the site please leave for another location to isolate

Security and CCTV

You should note that CCTV cameras are installed on the amenity building and the wigwams.

Liability

We shall not be liable for any loss that you may have as a result of any act or omission by any person who is not employed by us. We shall not be liable to you for any consequential or indirect loss that you suffer whether this arises from breach of duty in contract or tort or any other way. Except in cases of personal injury or death, our liability to you in respect of all claims arising out of your stay shall not exceed the cost of your booking. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for your personal belongings whilst they are on the park.

Data Protection

All the information taken at the time of booking is collected for the purpose of processing your booking. We may process your data to keep you informed of our activities and keep you updated with news, offers, and other information that may be of interest to you. As part of our ongoing monitoring and to help us improve the services we provide, we may disclose your data to a third party whom may contact you to complete a survey regarding your stay at our park.
